Overall Thoughts
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Overall, aout what I predicted. My word count is in line with last year. I would say that I wrote far more in the first half of the year than I expected, and far less in the second half.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
ChanKaisoo. Never, in a million years, would I have thought I would write this OT3. And it isn't because I dislike them, but I've always had a lot of trouble writing Jongin. He never seems to work correctly in my head.
What's your own favorite story of the year?
Hands down, Teenage Wasteland. It was a very personal fic for me to write and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Did you take any writing risks this year?
I did. A lot of them, actually. I stopped participating in fests, which was a huge risk for me because I wasn't sure how it would effect my productivity. After participating in them for 4 years (give or take) I needed a break, and I am happy I did it. But at the same time it was scary not to be in one, if that makes any sense. No deadlines. The excitement of reveals and anon posting is gone.
My goal is to write. Anything. Even something small. Just to be able to write fic. I have a lot on my plate next year, so just the simple act of having some time to write would be more than enough.
From my past year of writing what was...
My best story of this year:
Teenage Wasteland. I was able to write it start to finish without having a mental breakdown (like I normally do). It flowed really well from my head to the fic. I think I told a compelling and personal story, and I am extremely proud of this fic.
My most popular story of this year:
It's not my place in the 9 to 5 world. I am astounded by the amount of love that fic has received, and extremely grateful for it as well.
The story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Teenage Wasteland. Yes, I have a problem okay.
The most fun story to write:
Come Fly With Me. Bird hybrid AU is a blast to write (and imagine, my god I was laughing to myself so much while writing this one).
The story with the single sexiest moment:
The Good Son had a lot of sexy moments, in my opinion. Mobsters, bombs, secrets - all sexy material (okay, maybe not bombs).
The most "holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
After all that I've written over the years, I think it is impossible for me to feel this way.
The story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
The fic I am currently writing for the Bottom Soo fest. I thought I had it all figured out until the characters decided it made sense an entirely different way haha.
The hardest story to write:
The Step Over went through a lot of revisions before it reached its final form. I had a hard time pinning down the characters, and an even harder time making the setting work the way I wanted it to. There are a lot of deleted scenes for that fic /le sobs.
The biggest disappointment:
I still haven't finished Voices Carry. I am disappointed in myself for leaving this fic hanging out there for so long. I am disappointed in myself that whenever I try to write it, I just...can't. It seems so difficult.
The biggest surprise:
How dang productive I was in the first part of the year. I wrote a lot of fic, and fic that I was proud of. Who would have thunk it.
The most unintentionally telling story:
Teenage Wasteland ripped my heart out a dozen times and just when I thought I could go on it hit me in the face with a sobbing spell ;;;

After participating in them for 4 years (give or take) I needed a break, and I am happy I did it. But at the same time it was scary not to be in one, if that makes any sense. No deadlines. The excitement of reveals and anon posting is gone.
Another risk I took had to do with my editing process. I purchased Grammarly premium and put my faith into the software as my first line "beta", so to speak. Honestly, I am really happy I did so.
